having quite a number of friends turning 21 this year has really made me wonder...why am i so cynical about my 21, while they are so ecstatic about this "coming of age"? i mean, sure...yeah, i'm an adult now, and that i'm only 21 once in my life(which is the true for any birthday tbh). But...what does being an adult entail?
if i were asked, what did turning 21 feel like, i would say...its like watching a huge group of supercars racing by you as you're on the side of the road. you feel awestruck and amazed that this kind of thing could be happening to you, of all people. then you realise in retrospect, the cars flying by signifies how the things you used to hold dear as a child are just leaving you behind in the dust now that we're all "grown up" chasing goals that are ever changing, growing, getting more extravagant..in line with achievements and expectations.
we humans, we're never contented with what we have. ive heard somewhere, that to be contented with what you have means you're never going to progress. but at what point, do we as people say, "alright, we've got enough now." and stop remodelling the planet to fit our needs. maybe its not occurred to our leaders that humans are just like animals, merely renting space on the planet. unlike animals who evolve to further survive in their new environment, we choose to make the environment fit us. in this fashion, im pretty sure humans arent evolving at all, regardless of how much progress we've made as a race. at one point once we've fucked up the earth enough, we're all gonna get pwned and then the rest of the animal kingdom will mock the ape that climbed too high and lost sight of the ground.
but i digressed...being an adult isnt all its cracked up to be. why is it that older people tend to get so presumptuous and/or have such a superiority complex about themselves?
having lived 50 or 60 years of their lives doesnt mean they know what 1 year of mine is like. not that they even try to understand instead of pigeonhole me...
and i wont even start on the superiority complex, cos thats gonna be too long winded.
i think i just digressed again. oh fuck it...i think this is just another rant post >__>
feel free to disagree with me on the above, but be vocal and let me know. ive not had a free wheelin debate in a while now
